MM Connect
In today’s data centers, technology has migrated from ORT and 3480/90 to 98/9940, 3590 and VTS systems. However, data centers are often left with old standalone 3480/90 and ORT tape drives and their controllers occupying large amounts of floor space, while generating heat and providing maintenance and reliability problems.
ORT and 3480/90 data cartridges are still a common form of data interchange, and it becomes difficult to dispose of this equipment while you may have some ORT 3480/90 media that you may have to access (Archive etc) or are required to output data on one of these older formats.
Note: Operating system and application updates are still distributed using 3480/90 data cartridges.
MM-connect provides a conversion interface between the input/output drives and the Mainframe, allowing modern low cost SCSI tape drives to be connected to the ESCON mainframe channel. This conversion system along with various SCSI tape drives can be accommodated in one cabinet.
All conversions are transparent to Host system and no software or hardware changes are needed.
MM-connect will decrease the Costs of data centre operations by improving the following:
• Reliability of systems
• Writing of most industry standard interchange formats
• Reduction in Downtime
• Parts Availability
• Business Continuity
• Floor space utilisation
• Channel Reduction
• Energy efficiency
